AP Style Bootcamp Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: February 3rd, 2010 at 5:36 pm
I just finished watching the AP Style Bootcamp video which was very informative and helpful. I have been very confused about a lot of elements to the AP Stylebook. It is confusing how everything is so spread out and there are many pages you have to turn to for finding the information needed. This book would have been helpful in my pervious classes where I had to write a news release or articles. This video helped to show me exactly where to look from now on and the little tabs will be an easier way to find what I am looking for. Now that I have watched this video it has helped me understand the book better and hopefully it will improve my writing. The punctuation in the back of the book always would confuse me and it would cause me to look through the book instead of knowing it had its own section. I still have to look at this book more often to become more familiar with the different concepts but I believe this video was the beginning to this. Thank you, Kate Kavanagh PRCA 3330

Taylor Swift Hug Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 5:46 am.

Hey Michelle! I had not heard about this challenge until I saw it posted as one of your blogs! I love Taylor Swift as well and it caught my attention with how you incorporated her picture at the top. I think that it is amazing the things that those two boys are doing just to get a hug in return. Many people these days would give up after the one challenge but Michael and Ryan just seem to out due the previous challenge. I will have to keep my eye out for the other challenges that are passed on to the boys and eventually see the hug. Hopefully she has them do a few more entertaining things before she gives in! Thank you for posting this, it was very entertaining!!

Movies Based On Books Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 2:08 am.

Hey Carrie! I completely agree with what you’re talking about. I remember when the book Twilight came out everyone was crazy to read it. Once you read the book and then viewed the movie it had different scenes and even a few different characters. They should not be able to say the movie is based on the book if they have different messages. I have always loved reading books but this same issue has caused me to have to stay away from those books that could be converted into a movie. It’s hard to do but I hate the differences when you are expecting something to happen and it doesn’t. If I hear from others that they are alike I will then read the book before watching. I do not have much free time right now to read, so I try to fit in a movie or two!

Are You A Lucky Duck Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 2:20 am

I am a huge fan of wine and will drink it anytime that I get a chance. Ever since I was young, my parents had a very large collection of wine in the basement and had a glass every night with dinner. I am a little picky on wine flavors now that I grew up with them and being able to go to California to the vineyards. If you have not done so already, when you get a chance I would recommend going and doing the wine tasting. It’s not too cheap so start saving up! Your blog caught my eye because just like you I look at the bottle and pick ones that are cute. I also have never had a bottle of wine that I have enjoyed to only be a few dollars! I am going to have to keep an eye out for this kind of wine and grab a bottle next time I see it! Hopefully I will like it and be able to save a few dollars!

Snow Day Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 2:39 am

I go to school in Statesboro, Georgia, as well but I am originally from New York and Pennsylvania. Everyone always told me that it would not snow in Statesboro because it’s too far south. It was such a surprise when we actually got the two inches! All of my friends were so excited and wanted to play in the snow all night long. To them it was a great thing but since I have grown up all around it, it was nothing special to me! I was not prepared at all and am always cold to begin with. I always loved cuddling up and watching movies when it snowed so you had the perfect mind set. Although I have had my share of snow and came down here to get away from the cold weather, it was a nice surprise to get it that one night!

Phil Says Thanks In His Own Way Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 2:49 am

Your blog caught my attention first because it is the same background and layout as mine! Secondly this post stood out to me because I am a huge fan of golf and have been playing for fun since I was young. I am not too good but my family is always at the golf course or has it on the television. I have always liked to watch Phil in the tournaments and always cheered for him. I had always heard from people that he was a polite and caring person, but when I saw this at the Shell Houston Open it was the actual was the proof. Glad this caught your eye as well!!

One Billion Online Views Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 3:05 am

When I first heard about Lady Gaga, I actually did not like her music and thought it was overplayed. Once I kept hearing it on the radio and with friends, I grew a liking to it. The one major thing that always stands out with Lady Gaga is her outrageous extravagant outfits. I can definitely see how she has grown to the spot she is at today and being a member of the one billion views club. It is unbelievable that she has accomplished this in such a short time frame but I agree with Erica when she said it’s because of her being strange and people wanting to find out more about the performer. Hopefully she will come out with many more songs and continue to surprise us!

What Your Mom Didnt Tell You Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 3:05 am

I love to read books and this one sounds extremely interesting! I usually only read the books to waste time and the books that do not cause you to do much thinking. I’ve never heard of the author of this specific book before but the way you explained it caused it to be very appealing. I am a junior in college and need to become prepared for what’s to come when I graduate next spring. I always seem to question myself so a book on following intuition would probably be good for me to read. I will definitely keep this book in mind next time I am at the book store!

Diet Coke Target Audience Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 3:29 am

I have never really thought about target audiences when it comes to picking a kind of soda bottle. It is very interesting that you observed this randomly at Einstein’s Bagel Bros because I go there all of the time and never once have noticed this but you must have a good eye. I have never met a guy that has asked for a diet anything! They always want the sugar because they do not care about the intake of calories or their figures. Women go for the diet and zero calories almost every time. It’s smart that the companies have become aware of this and now use each product and target it toward their specific audiences. I will have to keep an eye out for this next time I grab a soda!!

Abortion Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 3:43 am

This topic is very controversial and I know people that are on both sides of the issue. I completely agree with it being allowed to women who have been previously raped. They should not have to live with the memory. Although I want to say that it should be allowed all of the time I do not. You should be smart enough to use protection and avoid this from happening in the first place. If you made the mistake, and have the baby it could be the best thing that has happened to you. Many girls put in this situation at my age would not want a baby and it would be a huge damper on their future plans.

Misleading Cervical Cancer Commercial Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 7:56 am

I just recently saw this commercial while watching TV and I was completely fooled. I had no idea it was going to have such a spin on the end and turn itself into a PSA. It was very creative and thoughtful way to grab female attention when they were already thinking it was going to be a new perfume soon to be released. Although there is the whole fear aspect within the PSA it should be very productive in getting the viewers to research a little about Cervical Cancer. It was strange at first expecting something and it being something you did not expect. Hopefully a lot of other PSA’s will follow in their footsteps.

PR Has Kate Gosselin A Media Star Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 8:06 am

I agree that it is crazy to see Kate on Dancing with the Stars. When they filmed the show Jon and Kate Plus Eight, there were always so many people watching. I was one of them. Kate was such a strong person in the relationship to the point that it pushed Jon away. Going through a divorce with Jon and being on the show is probably a lot on all of the kids. She is now rarely home and all of the publicity on her is still positive. Even though she has been on the bottom for the past few weeks she is still hanging on. It was also announced that she now has two other things to come in the near future that are just going to make her greater shine and standout.

Tiger Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 8:15 am

I found this whole subject crazy. I agree that what he did was wrong and unacceptable but it had to do with his private life. Therefore he should only have had to explain things to Elin and not do any press conference about his mistakes. I think it was great that Tiger played in the Master’s and that he ended in the top 5! It shows that even though he took a break to try to straighten things out with his personal issues, that he is still the same player that he was before and should still get the support from fans. Hopefully he will just continue to grow.

Reality TV Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 20, 2010 at 3:05 am

I also am not a huge fan of reality television. Some of the shows I can stand but then there are others that are above and beyond. I had never gained a liking to Survivor but this show had a huge turnout the first year. I remember when people were so excited to watch it and I would be getting ready for bed when it was about to go on. Now the show is just extremely repetitive. My roommate freshman year in college loved to watch the VH1 shows Flavor Flav and I Love New York. She would watch them every week and even if they were aired between it would be on the television in our room. I felt like I couldn’t get away from it!! I do have to admit that I have recently started watching the Bachelor and Bachelorette and those two shows I love!

I have never heard of this show before but it sounds very interesting. I have been a huge fan of “The Hills” and watch it every season. I had no idea that there was another show that included the same characters. I guess it is because this new show is on Bravo while the other is on MTV. Before I changed my major to public relations I was majoring in interior design and my minor was in fashion merchandising. The things that those girls do would be very intriguing to me and I am going to have to keep an eye out for this show when I go home for the summer!

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 22, 2010 at 3:05 am

I also have to admit to being a fan of reality television. I have seen “Keeping up with the Kardashians” but surprisingly I have never heard of “The Spindustry.” From how you explained the show, it sounds very entertaining. My major is public relations so I would love to see how they portray PR practitioners and the elements that they choose to keep out. Next time I am flipping through channels I will have to keep my eye out for the show and I am interested to see how the rest of the season plays out. Thank you for the little television preview!

After reading this post I have all of the sudden become very hungry and of course there is nothing that sounds as appealing at the moment. For a period of time I was sick for a few months I was also doing the healthy eating, so I know exactly what you mean when you get one special night to break those rules! I am a huge fan of sushi but have never tried any with shrimp. I always get the spicy tuna roll or the eel roll! If you haven’t had the eel roll I would definitely recommend it. It sounds disgusting and not many people will try it but it has terrific flavor. Thanks for the post, now I am going to have to go get sushi sometime soon!

Help My Geckos Tail Broke Off Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 22, 2010 at 10:03 am

Wow. I have always heard about the tail falling off but not with as much detailed information that was provided by your post. I hope that by now the tail is back and the gecko Blake is functioning normally. If it were not for your post I would have had no idea about all of the different things you have to do for the little animal. I thought that you just buy it, put it in a little container and feed it. You spent a lot of money to nurse it back to health so I hope that you do not have anymore incidents in the near future!

Sex and the City Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 22, 2010 at 10:12 am

I never have thought about Samantha from Sex and the City when referring to public relations but I happen to agree with you completely. That show was so popular and now the movies are coming out which reaches an even larger spectator count. It makes people involved with PR look like they are snooty, stuck-up and act like they are above all others around them. I wish that these programs would begin to portray the real job of a PR worker beyond the glam or easy going aspect. This is my major and I know that when I graduate and have a job I would not want to be seen in that light.

What Are You Thankful For Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 22, 2010 at 10:24 am

This specific post of yours stood out among your others. It caused me to really think about how people have changed over the years and have become so rude to one another. I am from New York area originally and it is even crazy to see how people act toward one another in the north compared to the south. In the north people look at you like your crazy if you say hello to them without knowing them previously. I think the atmosphere changes depending on the certain town you are located in as well. If you’re in a little town where everyone knows everyone, the people will act differently then a large city. All of the things that you said you were thankful for were very moving and deep. I am going to have to make a list and write out everything that I am thankful for to realize how lucky I truly am.

PR Majors Are Misunderstood Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 22, 2010 at 3:01 pm

This blog was very interesting and I liked how you incorporated this video. I am a PR major and I get asked all of the time what that is and what I can do with it when I graduate. I really enjoyed how this explains that there are many different angles in being a PR professional. Ever since I have had this as my major everyone tells me that you have to put in a lot of hard work to work your way to the top. Another important thing is to keep in contact with PR professionals you meet along the way because they could end up helping you in the future!

Death of Georgia  Luger Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 26, 2010 at 3:07 pm

When this incident occurred I did not hear about it until a few days had passed. By that time when I went online to look it up nothing was there. Everyone was saying how horrible the actual video was and I was interested in seeing what had happened. All I was able to find was an example of what had occurred and it was a computerized model. The only thing that I was actually able to see of Nodar Kumaritashvil was memory videos and pictures of his life. After spending a lot of time looking through different websites there was one place that showed still pictures of what he looked like while be taken away on a stretcher. There was blood all over his face and he did not look like he was in good shape. I think that it is a little overboard to be able to show the actual video of what had occurred. Even though the actual accident was filmed I think it’s very respectful to removed all footage. I like how everything was removed offline as to showing the exact accident and only now showed computerized examples. This shows respect to him and his family.

A Day In The Life Of Public Relations Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 26, 2010 at 3:17 pm

Thank you for the link to this website. It had a lot of interesting information about a Public Relations practitioner. I liked how it explained what a PR professional did and what their job entailed. My major is PR and many people always ask me what that means I would do. This article has an interesting way of explaining it and goes into a little more detail then the usual publicity and lots of writing. Only thing I would change about your post is that it would be more interesting and I would have liked to hear what your opinion was about the article and feedback on what they talked about!

When I was watching the Superbowl this year this was also my favorite commercial! I do not have a family connection to the advertisement like you do but this one made me laugh. Its very interesting how you can personally relate yourself to this commercial and it must have made it so much more entertaining for you. I thought it was very cute how the little boy would act sweet until his mom was gone then he acted out to be very protective. I think this was a favorite to many people during the Superbowl this year and definitely something that many people can relate to whether it being the child perspective or the boyfriend!

Why So Serious? Blog Comment

Kate Kavanagh Says: April 26, 2010 at 3:38 pm

This blog post was very cute. It shows how much you get along with your mom and how close the two of you are. It reminds me of my relationship with my mom. I am 13 hours away from her right now and only get to see her for Christmas break and during the summer. I talk to her on the phone all of the time, to be honest probably 6 times a day! There are many qualities that we get from the people that we care about so much and spend so much time with. I also think it’s funny that you are sensitive or defensive with those who are close to you because I am the same way. It is only with the people I am very close to otherwise others will have no idea that is part of my personality!

Before Blake Mycoskie came to Georgia Southern to speak about TOMS shoes I had never heard or seen them before. When I went to the auditorium for this special guest there were no seats left. The place was so crowded and already full 30 minutes before it was scheduled to begin. I think it is very interesting how with one pair of shoes sold he gives one pair to a child who is less fortunate. It gives an incentive to students to buy the shoes and then know they are giving a child a pair to protect their feet. His story was very moving and since his speech I have seen many of the TOMS shoes around campus which shows that he had an impact on the students during his visit.
